![]() Lauriebeck is a family business, run by Alec and Bex Smith, with assistance (or hindrance?!) from their 3 children! Alec is a versatile craftsman who creates beautiful sets of smallpipes from scratch. In his spare time he enjoys making stringed instruments, and has recently turned his hands to making some furniture. Bex is the support, making bag covers and keeping this website up to date as much as possible! The children create the mess that ensures they always have plenty to do beyond work! ![]() Alec playing a set of Scottish smallpipes in A, made from Cocobolo with Antler mounts ![]() Some of Alec's most recent creations - a mandolin for himself; a 3/4 size 12 string guitar called "Betty" made for Bex; both on the chair that Alec also made! ![]() How beautiful is this guitar? "Betty" is so named after the lady who, for many years, owned the 1930's oak furniture from which the back and sides of the guitar were made! Bex likes smaller guitars, and found that there was less "finger slicing" caused when playing a 12 string... hence being awkward and asking for this gorgeous guitar which she is now learning to play... ![]() ...when her daughter hasnt got there first!
